- Marv_HoagExplorerThanks for the replies.
- twotoesExplorerI just did that route in reverse a month ago. Left Custer State Park (CSP) and headed to Cheyenne. Actually I used highway 79 to 18 and went thru Hot Springs. Stayed on 18 to 85 and made my way to I-25 to Cheyenne. Hwy 79 is a divided 4 lane road and is much better than 385 but you will be on the east side of CSP and have to go thru the park on 36/16A to get to the town of Custer and onto 385 to Hill City and the Rafter J. You may be better staying on 385.

Have a 40' MH looking for the best route to Rafter J Bar campground from Cheyenne. Looks like 85 to 18 to 89 good or no good?
Yup, agree with the other folks. Did that same route this past summer to Rafter J Bar, other than being a bit...lonely....it's a great route. It IS Wyoming, after all, lots of empty up there.
Fuel stops are in Torrington/Lingle, Lusk, and Edgemont. Lusk Rest Stop is at the Junction of 18/85 split off, nice place to stop and stretch a bit. Goodly, steady climb from there up to the Edgemont area. - dieseltruckdrivExplorer IILiving here, that is the route I would take. Just remember, 89 actually is 385 starting at Pringle.
- Mandalay_ParrExplorerGood to go as you described.
- TexasShadowExplorer II85 is fine. we've not used 18 but others say it is ok. we cross over up on 16 and it is ok, too.
