Best route from Meeks Bay, Lake Tahoe to Mammoth Lakes

We are driving a 32 foot Class C with toad. To get to Mammoth Lakes, we were planning on continuing south/northeast on Highway 89 to Kingsbury and picking up Highway 207 to get to Highway 395. However...

I agree with the Hwy 50 suggestion. Much easier on equipment and nerves than 88 and 89. We ate at JTs in Gardnerville on June 7 before my grandson's high school graduation. JTs is still a great as it always was.
