best route from NJ to Ocean city, Md

after coming over the Delaware Memorial Bridge we have always taken the cutoff for Rt 13 south and stayed on that to Rt 1. Lot of traffic and traffic lights. I am wondering if it would be better to stay on I 95 a few more miles to exit 165 and pick up Rt 1 south from I 95. We have to make this trip next week and would appreciate some of your feedback.

  • Not really an answer to your specific question, but for us (near long Branch NJ) the best route is down the Garden State Parkway to mile zero then the Cape May/Lewes Ferry and route 1 along the coast to Ocean City (actually to Assateague National Seashore).

This route saves us about 70 miles of driving and the tolls on the NJ Turnpike and the Delaware bridge. The ferry costs more than we save in gas and tolls, but it's a nice break in the drive and a very pleasant ride.

  • Take the Delaware Memorial bridge to 95 south..Take 95 S to the new route 1 exit and the mall road... Stay on route 1 South ... It's 4 lane highway all the way till south of Dover , at that point jump onto 113 to 50 into Ocean City

+1. From eastern NJ or PA that's the best route, by far.
