Best route from Vancouver to Cresent City CA

We are planning to get through Canada roads over close to Vancouver and then go south to Crescent City CA, where we will de-winterize and carry on with our trip for two weeks. We will be driving a 27ft Motorhome the first two weeks of December. What is the best route to get to Crescent City and best border crossing. Our plan is to get to Crescent City as fast as possible with the least resistance of winter driving and mountain passes. We will be starting our trip from Edmonton and we figure to cross over the Rocky Mountains in Canada as we are very familiar with those roads and get as close to the coast and south in Canada before entering the US where we don't know the roads as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Zooming into Crescent City, there are only 2 ways to get there. 101 or 199. I would come down 101 along the Oregon coast if the weather is bad. If the weather is nice and dry, I would come down I-5 and hwy 199.
  • You could come south on 97 or I5. Crossing time on I5 will be longer than the truck crossing. Weather will be warmer the closer to the coast you get. But you will also experience more rain. If you cross on 97, follow 97 south to I84 and head west. Pick up I205 north to I5 to Longview,WA, and follow the signs back across to US30 in Oregon. This will take you toward Astoria and US101. If you cross one of the two Vancouver area crossings, then I5 south to Longview and follow the above to the coast.
