Probably because he's headed west to Spokane afterward. West and east sides are both nice. With a toad, it's all accessible via day trips anyway.
I stayed a couple nights at Glacier CG 1 mile west of the entrance gate, but I spent much more time around Apgar and the lake shore. It certainly is nice there.
My route was US 287 to MT 287 to Sheridan, where I boondocked a few miles east of town (that dirt track was iffy even for my little rig, though). Then on to MT 41 north to I-90 to US93 to MT 35 around the east shore of Flathead Lake. It seemed pretty easy, and great scenery.
