Best route through Denver

right now I'm just below Colorado springs and headed to Estes Colorado. Need good route and recommendation of campgrounds.

Labor Day Weekend this week and the Scottish Irish Highland Festival next weekend...you'll likely not find anything available IN Estes Park. Lots of folks stay in the area for both weekends, and you'll also have all of the various acts/entertainers at the Festival arriving this weekend and all next week. It's hugely popular, with LOTS of people in the area for both weekends. Traffic will be a nightmare from now through next Sunday...and beyond.

Depending on when you arrive and how long you plan to stay, you MIGHT find something in the USFS CG south of Estes Park on CO 7/CO 72. If you're arriving Monday afternoon for a stay during the week, you chances of finding a spot might improve in Estes Park, and would be better in the USFS CG south of town. As far as staying inside Rocky? Slim to no chance of finding a space for that size rig. The size of your rig will hamper your search for places to stay. Only commercial place that might be able to accommodate you if you arrive on Monday, would be Elk Meadows Resort, just a very short distance for the entrance to RMNP.

As for getting there, just take I-25 straight through. For the alternative, you'll need to take out a small loan to pay the toll on E-470!:E Go north on I-25 to the CO 66 exit (the north Longmont exit) and take that west to Lyons, and US 36 up to Estes Park. There's construction going on in the Big Thompson Canyon/US 34 during the week, with some construction delays. For this coming week, their schedule is Tuesday-Friday.
  • I will be right behind you in a few days. I have always gone straight through Denver on I-25, just going with the flow. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I have never had any difficulty or delay. Will turn this time at Longmont, but often at Loveland. Will be coming out at Loveland this time. We definitely have reservations in Estes Park.
  • If you are arriving in EP tomorrow without reservations, you may have a very big problem. You will have to take whatever you can get. The best route is I25 to the Lyons exit.
