best route to colorado from nc

My wife made a suggestion that she want to go to Colorado(Denver area) to camp but then she said that she did not want to go thru Kansas so I am looking for some directions THAT WOULD By-pass Kansas I check with MapQuest and all it showed me was going thru Kansas.
  • So....what is wrong with Kansas, or any of the plains states for that matter? Has she been there before? We have crossed those states at least 10 times in the past 7 years, never on an interstate, & always found the drive interesting. There is always 'history' stuff parked in front of farms, to look at. Slowing down to pass through a no/one light town gives a break from what is usually full highway speed.

yep, western Kansas is just as beautiful as western Nebraska or western Oklahoma. ;)

  • Here are some ideas from a recent thread. Hard to avoid Kansas entirely and have a somewhat direct route.
  • Not sure where you live in NC. Could you get on to Interstate 40 in Knoxville and then travel on it west?

Or if you have the time, take some of the state and US highways. You will see more of the country and small towns that way.
