Best route to Ft. Pickens from I-65

What would be the best route from I-65 coming from the North to Ft. Pickens near Pensacola? Getting off at exit #93 and going through Brewton, AL & Milton, FL., or go on down to exit #69 taking Hwy., 113 & 29 to I-110 then 98?
I will be pulling a 36 ft., fifth wheel.

  • Norm gave excellent directions.

They are working on widening/expanding the lanes leading up to the toll booth. Some days they work on the left, some days they work on the right. Occasionally one of the lanes across the bridge will be closed, but so far they've tried to hold closures to the least busy hours. Just watch out for those "wonderful" orange cones.

Right now, the Blues aren't flying practices due to the cancellation of the rest of the show season. Individual pilots fly, just to get in the hours they need/require, but no group flying. I really miss that. They do still have autograph sessions at the free Naval Aviation museum on certain days.

    Safe trip.

  • Are the toll booths manned? Some booths I have come across you just throw you change in there. Being in a motorhome this may be an issue.
  • Thanks Norm for the directions. just wish we were going to be there a few day earlier so we could see the Blue Angels practice.
  • Take 113 south from I 65 to U S 29.
    Both 113 and 29 are 4 lane.

Do NOT get onto I 10 as you enter Pensacola......
this is an entry from the LEFT side, and it is
difficult to get quickly into the right lane
for a turn onto I 110 south in a short distance.
    Instead, go UNDER I 10 continuing on U S 29
    a few miles.....turn left/east on BRENT LANE
(multi lane) and go about 1/2 mile to a right/south
turn onto I 110 south. Follow this until it ends, and
this puts you onto U S 98. You quickly come to
    a left/east turn at the bay.......cross the
    3 mile bridge on U S 98 (don't be short of fuel)
into Gulf Breeze.....after a mile or so see sign
on right for Pensacola Beach, right turn...
do that, and cross a toll ($1) bridge onto the
island......after about 1/2 mile, at sign, turn
right for a 7 mile drive to Fort Pickens.
I suggest you have plenty of fuel, food, etc
because it's 7 miles BACK to commercial places
    (hotels, bars, restaurants........NO grocery
stores......they are back across the toll bridge).
P M me for more if you wish.
