Best routes across middle of country west of the Mississippi

We're planning a trip from California to the East Coast and back again, probably visiting Washington state up north, and Maine and Florida back east. May stray up into Canada. I'd like to hear sugge...

There are lots of routes, the only suggestion I will give you is to stay off I40 through Arkansas. It is an absolutely horrible road. Because of the huge holes in the road, I needed to get the front end realigned on our MH. I swear I hit the back end of a semi trailer that fell into one of them LOL
