Best RV route from Three Forks Montana to West Yellowstone?

We are planning or trip next June from Olympia to Yellowstone. Plan is to eventually stay in Three Forks the last night of the journey and last leg into West Yellowstone via either federal route 287 or 191. From what I gather neither route would pose a problem for our 24' motor home? If that is the case, would one be more scenic or otherwise preferable to,the other? Thanks in advance!

  • US 287 is more open and from Norris to West Yellowstone follows the Madison River valley. There is one short climb just south of Norris. US 191 is more of a river canyon than a valley and is correspondingly more curvy from Belgrade to Big Sky. It follows the Gallatin River. Both drives are scenic and the roads are in decent shape, but US 287 is probably more RV friendly due to the wider Madison River valley.
  • we have driven on both. both are good roads and going through scenic country. 191 may have more traffic but not problematic.
