Best times for Michigan, Minnesota & Wisconsin?

We are wondering how to work a schedule that might allow us to see the NE in the same trip. Are the best times the same for both areas? We don't want any freezing weather either place, but prefer temp...

Both regions have similar climates so your window is narrow. Why not do 1 region 1 year (and South for the colder months)? Then try the other region the following year?
