I assume you're taking the train to Lorton, VA. Can you take a fiver on the train? Anyway, you would be just south of DC so you have to go through it, I'd take 495 east around the city, then 95 north through Baltimore and then the Jersey pike to the Garden State Pkwy. Depending on the time you get to NYC you could stay on 95 and cross the GW bridge (middle of the night)(stay on the truck or upper level). If anything but the middle of the night take the garden state to the Tapp. and go through Danbury on 84 to the Mass Pike.

If over the GW bridge in the middle of the night stay on 95 to 91 to Hartford to 84 to the Mass Pike.
