Calgary & Edmonton have a ring road around them now. It's great to be able to drive around and not through the cities. We were out there last summer, although we didn't use the Calgary ring road as we weren't sure that it was finished. I understand it is now. We must have hit Calgary at the right time because we breezed through without any holdups. I'd also try a GPS to see what it tells you about the shortest or fastest route. Google maps may help also.
