You've seen most of the good advice, watch your speed, slow down for the frost heaves, most of which are marked with orange flags.
Find a campground near the remote places you want to visit, take the dinghy. Whatever you tow, is likely to get rock chips as a minimun. Used a guard, protect-a -tow, or something else you prefer. If you go during the summer, any hiway, including the Alcan, is likely to have some construction/repair, meaning gravel roads up to 50/100 mile streches. I made the trip a few times.
