Blue Ridge Parkway start to end

Has anyone ever traveled the entire BRP? Is it possible to travel it with a 33ft 5th wheel? Or may a 25' TT? (My parents have the TT). Just one of the things on my bucket list.

  • How many days would you spend? I would like to check out a lot of the local area.
  • According to the Jayco Boucher it is 141"-145". I would measure the height prior to my planning.

Where was the mislead about the tunnels?

As I stated, his length is not a problem, the issue is height. That is why I asked how tall his rig is. You give the length of yours but fail to state the height. It's 11'5", unless you have modified it.

11'5" can make it through all of the tunnels, although there are a couple that you would have to stay off of the right side line. The charts that list minimum height for the tunnels measure it at the edge stripe. The minimum height for the Bunchess Bald tunnel is listed as 10'6". I think anything under 13' can make it through all of the tunnels, but will have to drive in the center of some. Above 13', some of the tunnels could be scary.

  • You have to stay in the middle in some tunnels, but the tunnels are short and most (repeat after me ... most) drivers understand when they see your lights out in the center.

My fiver is 12'-8" when hooked up.

  • How tall is your 5th wheel? The 33 ft. length will not be the issue.

Some of the tunnels and underpasses are low (less that 11 feet) at the edges of the roadway.

  • The entire BRP? Nope. Large portions of it. Yep. I did it with a 26ft TT. It's beautiful, but slow and tedious. Do it. There's no reason not to.
