I have driven the full length from Cherokee to I64 in Va. I have camped at most of the nicer locations but mostly in tents. Your 25 footer can handle the roads with no problem. But it is slow going and requires concentration by the driver. Early spring the weather is iffy. They close sections if there is freezing rain or heavy snow. But mostly April/May can have dense low clouds and fog to the point where you can't see a dam thing. Nothing but gray for days. The southern section in N Carolina has the most scenic vistas and the highest elevations. Mt Mitchell is the highest point on the East coast. Surprisingly there is a SuperWallmart at Little Switzerland near Linville Falls which are beautiful and easy to walk to. I'd get on at Cherokee and if its foggy get off at Ashville, Boone or Fancy Gap to I81. If the weather is nice go the full route and plan on at least 2 or 3 days so you can see the sights and enjoy the ride. Most of the visitor centers and services (meals) will be closed until mid May. Luray Caverns are especially nice for a side visit. In May/June the rhodadendrons and azaleas are fantastic but April will be too early. Oh ya, the campgrounds don't have hook ups. They do have restrooms and drinking water at spigots here and there. No showers or hot water.
