I live about 5 miles from the junction between the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, so I vote "GO!" While I have drive the Drive many, many times I have only driven the Parkway in bits and pieces accounting for about 1/3 of it. I grew up tent camping at Sherando Lake (a few miles off of the Parkway) and there's a lot of great stuff in the area near the juncture (check out the http://brewridgetrail.com/ Brew Ridge trail if you are interested).
My #1 piece of advice is to take your time...don't calculate your travel time based on 45 mph, you will miss seeing amazing places like this one!
