BofA 3% ATM fee

At the walk up currency windows on the street in Nogales yesterday, the conversion was between 13.30 - 13.50 pesos per $1 USA. Stores were giving the same rate. No additional fee collected.

That's been the big search. Capital One's credit cards are no fee, period. Until November 8, Bank of America ATM use has been no fee at Santander in Mexico. Now it's 3% The big search for a free ATM is still on. Best I've found, or read about to date, is CapitalOne360.
I'd love to have other options, especially something I can set up while I'm still in Mexico for 4 more months. That 3% is adding up fast.

Can anyone definitely point me to an ATM card I can use in Mexico that is fee free?

....as of 2011, it cost a bank just about, no, exactly 36 cents an ATM transaction....you work out the rest (OK, look at it this way: banks are charging YOU, the owner of YOUR money, a fee to access it, so how much money are you earning per year with your money deposited in said fee banks? Say, -4%; depositors must be on drugs, or at least hallucinating to ever do this ?) :B There are a few no fee international banks out there with no fee accounts and no fee transactions...

I just got a long e-mail from allpointnetwork.com regarding their no fee ATM's in Mexico. They have had problems in Mexico this month, but hope to have their system back on line "this weekend." There are no charges of any kind when you use their machines with the CapitalOne360 card. He sent me a file showing all of their machines in Guerrero, with address, GPS, type of business, and maximum amount that can be withdrawn at one time.
The CapitalOne360 card can be used in most ATM's, and you will only be charged a fee by the bank whose machine you are using. MUCH better than the 3% BofA is now charging!
I applied for my card on line last week, had it sent to a friend, who has already received it, and it will be brought down to me soon. The actual activation of the card is done on line.
Sure sounds good, and again, WAY better than BofA.

According to the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services is important to schedule their liquidity needs and to withdraw the right amount of ATMs.

Commissions on ATMs RED commercial banking and cash withdrawals with debit cards can reach levels up to 40 pesos , since financial institutions are allowed to charge a higher fee level in places where there are few .

For example, machines that are in supermarkets, shopping centers , airports, bus stations , convenience stores , pharmacies and gas stations usually charge a higher commission installed in bank branches, exposed Condusef .

He therefore recommended that users of these services to plan well on cash they will do to prevent further collection of fees .

In withdrawals with debit cards , the lowest commission in ATMs RED ( those who are of a different bank that issued the card using the account holder ) is Bansi , which is 8.62 pesos plus VAT , while the highest is Multiva , 40 pesos plus VAT.

On Wednesday 11 December, the Bank of Mexico announced a mobile application called Ubicajeros , with which it is possible to consult the nearest ATM and the fee charged .

The tool is available on the App Store for Mobile Devices Play Apple and Google for Android OS devices .

The central bank said that with this application you can see the location of ATMs closest to where the user is , and hours of service thereof.

Also, users can query these commissions ATM cash withdrawal charge for users whose debit card was issued by a different bank that operates the ATM , the central bank explained .

He stressed that the information displayed in this application is provided by bank operators of ATMs and the Bank of Mexico shows only for information purposes to users.

I was never talking about USA regs either, only USA Cash money. Some where you zigged and I zagged. You were on a different page than I was.

At any rate, I spoke to the Aduana at the Nogales Crossing today and he said nothing had changed for those of us crossing from NOB including the amount of cash allowed, $10,000 USA.

Moisheh, I asked if the limit was $300 CASH meaning dollars in hand and you responded Yes. But now I believe you were talking about goods and I was talking about CASH money.

Here is a story on the cost of using ATM's in Mexico. The interesting part is where the writer sates that ATM's in airports, supers, C stores and Pemex's cost more than one in a bank. The price limit is 40 pesos but the ATM operator is allowed to charge more in out of the way places. Note that one bank charges 8.61 pesos mas IVA.

México, DF.- Para evitar el pago de altas comisiones en retiros de efectivo en cajeros automáticos en esta temporada, La Condusef recomienda planificar su liquidez.

De acuerdo con la Comisión Nacional para la Protección y Defensa de los Usuarios de Servicios Financieros es importante que programe sus necesidades de liquidez y que retire la cantidad adecuada de los cajeros automáticos.

Las comisiones en cajeros automáticos RED de la banca comercial por retiros e efectivo con tarjetas de débito pueden alcanzar niveles hasta de 40 pesos, ya que las instituciones financieras tienen permitido cobrar un mayor nivel de comisiones en lugares donde existen pocos.

Por ejemplo, los cajeros que se encuentran en supermercados, centros comerciales, aeropuertos, terminales de autobuses, tiendas de conveniencia, farmacias y gasolineras, generalmente cobran una comisión mayor que los instalados en sucursales bancarias, expuso Condusef.

Por ello, recomendó que los usuarios de estos servicios planeen bien la disposición de efectivo que harán para evitar un cobro mayor de comisiones.

En los retiros con tarjetas de débito, la comisión más baja en cajeros RED (aquellos que son de un banco distinto al que emitió la tarjeta que usa el cuentahabiente) es de Bansi, que es de 8.62 pesos más IVA, mientras que el más alto es de Multiva, de 40 pesos más IVA.

El miércoles 11 de diciembre, el Banco de México anunció una aplicación para dispositivos móviles denominada Ubicajeros, con la cual es posible consultar el cajero más cercano y la comisión que cobra.

La herramienta está disponible en la App Store para dispositivos móviles Apple y de Google Play para dispositivos con sistema operativo Android.

El banco central indicó que con esta aplicación se puede consultar la ubicación de los cajeros automáticos más cercanos a donde el usuario se encuentre, y los horarios de servicios de los mismos.

También, los usuarios pueden consultar las comisiones que esos cajeros automáticos cobran por retiro de efectivo a usuarios cuya tarjeta de débito fue emitida por un banco distinto al que opera el cajero, detalló Banxico.

Destacó que la información que se despliega en esa aplicación es proporcionada por los bancos operadores de cajeros automáticos y que el Banco de México sólo la muestra con fines informativos para los usuarios.
