I just got back from Quetico on a canoe trip. You need a pasport. They do not want your drivers license because we handed them over as well but the immigration said "nope just the passports". Lets hope you do not have to deal with customs because they are the people that dig thru your stuff. Immigration are the ones that let you cross.
They asked us where we are going. Alcohal, I told them I had a 8oz flask. Tobaco, my bro had 12 cigarettes. Weapons, we told them we had knives for fileting fish. We pulled a trailer of canoes and had a box on the trailer, they never asked to look inside or anything like that. They are immigration, only checking for red flags on the passports. If one comes up then a supervisor may double check and decide if the situation needs to be escalated.
It was a busy place up here in Minnesota. They get campers and boaters crossing all the time. I know my bro-in-law and my bro had DWI's from years ago but got in with no problem.
Watch your fuel level and know where the petro stations are. Dont ask me why I know this.
