A PASSPORT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR U.S. CITIZENS ENTERING CANADA
An enhanced drivers license is accepted for entry to Canada, Mexico and most Caribbean Islands plus accepted by U.S. customs for return to the U.S. New York State issues them to New York residents for a small premium over a regular license. Check with your state about this. The thousand Island bridge is the way across to Canada. At times the backup to get through customs can be over an hour. Weekends including Friday are the worst. Just before entering Canada you will be on Wellseley Island which has a wonderful state park convenient to Route 81 to spend the night or longer in.
I have a summer home in the area so if you want more info PM me.
