The Canadian guard was polite and very quick, with simple questions. She had not seen a CDL, Commercial Driver's License so we talked a bit about that, then she said to have a good time.
I think sometimes the border agents pretend they haven't seen something or don't know something as a way of initiating a conversation during which they further assess your actions.
During one crossing into Alaska, the agent asked if we owned firearms then asked if we had firearms with us. Then asked about the Canadian permit to carry firearms, saying he didn't know the difference between the Possession Only Licence and the Possession and Acquisition Licence.
So he didn't know, BUT he knew their titles? While we "chatted" with him about Canada's firearms licences, another agent strolled around the truck and fifth wheel looking up & down and all around, with his hand on his holstered revolver.
Then the border agent asked about DH's Moose Drool t-shirt. Moose Drool is an American beer available in the Lower 48, and so he asked when we had last visited the Lower 48, where we went there, if we had tried Moose Drool, what we thought of it and so forth.
Maybe we got these tough questions because the first question when we pulled up was, "So, where are you going?"
DH answered, "Alaska".
Duh ... :B
