Borrego Springs, California

West of the California Salton Sea is the town of Borrego Springs. The town is surrounded by the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park that offers a nice public campground, hiking trails, day use areas, back country exploration and much more. There is a farmers market in the towns "Christmas Circle" every Friday this time of year too.

Besides the parks public campground, there are a couple commercial RV parks, but we've only boondocked in the area. We stay east of town on top of a hill overlooking the airport and town, but things are changing somewhat. The area we've stayed in is now managed by the state park and they have reduced the size of available boondocking by a rather large percentage on top of the hill. Those that know the area should be aware that boondocking and motorized travel east of the old radio tower site is no longer allowed. Additionally it is posted that camping is allowed for no more than 30 days each calendar year.

Hey, Earl, I am your neighbor ! We love A-B as well; great place. We are softies as well and stay in a pull thru. Not going to be there this year though but will be in Indio mid Dec til early Feb. Then Yuma and Ajo (for Organ Pipe) and back home.

Glad to know you. We just visited Quail Creek for the craft show. We are also heading to Yuma in Jan and Rocky Point in Feb.

  • The State Park is our favorite park in the whole country. We now live in the desert in AZ but we still go back to Anza-Borrego every year the day after Christmas. However, we are softies and stay at main campground with hook-ups. :) Have to get reservations months ahead to get the hook-up sites. Great pictures.
  • Enjoyed my stay last year up by some old abandoned radio antenna. Great little coffee shop in town.

Darn near got blown away one day.. winds can be merciless.
