Anybody who can buy a condo on a great Mexican beach is a lucky guy! As much as I like to move around, it sounds pretty good to me!

We stopped RVing 5 years ago when we bought our condo here in Zihua. We weren't ready to stop RVing, but the price was right for the condo, and it was a case of then or not at all. While life is different, we still travel anywhere we want to go in our car...well...long story short- we miss it sometimes, but are very happy with the choice we made.

Good luck Lew! As far as I am concerned you picked a great spot to move to in Halifax. Course I am a little biased. I understand the costs involved for sure. We average about 10-11000 miles per winter. Diesel sure ain't getting any cheaper!!

We have been on the road all over North America for almost 8 years now and know we will never get our bucket list done - but we will keep trying as long as we can. We know we will never see everything. It is all point of view I guess. We learn where to buy the cheapest fuel. We do not put on a lot of miles - but we do not stay in one place for very long either. We do spend a week or two and then move on. Sometimes more. Sometimes less. When we stay in one place we start getting nervous and need to move. That is why we started this and are not done yet. We do not try to do it all in one trip - but we do try to see as much as we can. It is not cheap but it is not all that expensive either - if you watch your costs and take your time. There is no way in the world we could see as much as we have seen while RVing. We have crossed countries and oceans by air and we saw nothing but the seat in front of us - which was tilted back so we had no room - and the costs of flying for what they give you - no food - extra baggage charges - etc. are not for us. In our Bus we have all our possessions and room for more. We sleep in our own bed and sit on our own toilet - to us that is worth a lot. We know we will have to give it up eventually but we are not there yet. It is a sense of adventure to keep moving. But we do caution against trying to see too much and to go too far all at once - experiencing places takes a bit more time. I was once a trucker and had to drive past many places - now we take the time to spend time visiting for a bit and find it much more enjoyable and much more informative. And we do return to some of the some places to see more of the place and to meet old friends - and at each stop it seems we find something new and meet someone new. What could be better. This summer we will probably be doing the western US again but we expect we will be driving down some roads we haven't been on before. And each winter we find ourselves roaming over more and more of Mexico - and a long way from seeing it all - and don't expect we ever will.

Sitting here in the coach always looking out front at different scenery is very uplifting. However with a 14 yr old rig and tires with only a couple of years left, I feel it is time to sell it before it becomes salvage, like my last one.
I use CIBC Aerogold Sand I have booked my flight from Halifax to ZLO on 1 Nov 14 for $95 taxes!! I cant buy a half a tank of fuel for that! As far as local transport goes, I going to set up a ledger showing the towed cost of Mex insurance, toll charges, gas in addition to putting only storage insurance when away. I know I will be able to spend a lot of pesos a day for taxis!!
and I only use taxis for length trips as I have a scooter and bike.
Lets see Savings insurance $500, tolls $150 fuel $100 that is 750 X12= 9000 pesos or 60 pesos every day I am here.

Sadly we will be doing the same after next winter, still want to do the length of Baja. Costs of RVing in Mexico are becoming greater than Southwest & Western USA & coupled with the difficulty crossing (both directions) is driving our decision. We will still RV along the Southern border of USA enjoying the Sun we can find. Also will still occasionally fly-in to Mexico. Stuff & life changes! Just Our Humble Opinions!

Good Luck! I just did the same thing and am real happy about my decision. Watching the money drain from my account every month for traveling full time just overrode my enjoying the experience. Won't stop RV'ing completely, just turn it into reverse snow birding I guess! :B

Traveling quite a bit this last two years to the Rio Grande Valley, it appears many people are either keeping their rvs in the south, purchasing mobile homes, or renting park models. The park we were in this fall purchased six mobile homes and six park models, all were rented or purchased before they were even set up. The park models rent for 1250 a month.

Some say it is the aging of this market, others say they are tired of the drive and the expense from northern climes and prefer to just fly down. Two parks that I know pretty well in the RGV still have spaces available and many units for sell or rent.

Looks like a shift overall. Baby boomers apparently have different wants and desires in their retirement these days. I wonder what these parks will come up with.

In our case, we are planning a five month trip through the U.S./Canada, and calculating fuel costs are scary. We're not used to covering that much territory. I don't understand how people do it year after year unless of course it is all offset by lower heating bills and cheaper gas in the U.S. and Mexico.
