Boy Scout border crossing
I see today news about a troop of Boy Scouts that were counciled about taking pictures at a us border crossing on their return from Alaska . There was no mention of which crossing. As I have to return...

O.K. folks, IF the Agent had (see below for what really took place) pointed his weapon to "cover" the Scout who was digging in an overhead carrier and not complying with the Agent's order to "show me your hands", what do we actually have here? Answer: An armed Agent in uniform performing his official duties at an official government border crossing, giving voice commands/orders to comply and ultimately at the end of his shift, trying to get home to his wife and three boys in one piece.
His level of force was: Officer presence and Officer voice commands. Period. No firearm was discharged. When the situation was no longer a threat to the Officer he would have holstered an unfired weapon. End of shift, he goes home to family.
O.K. Now for what really happened: The Agent unsnapped the security latch on the top of his holster and kept his hand on a holstered weapon until the Scout complied with Agent's commands.
CBP cameras do not lie and investigators at a very high level in CBP would have viewed the footage. If the investigation had determined that the Agent had NOT followed CBP policy, the Agent would have been disciplined and or terminated.
Land border crossings can be quick, easy, and uneventful if one does as others on RV.net have suggested. Windows down, radios/cell phones off, vehicle off, both hands visible on EVERY person, eye contact with Agent, LISTEN to the Agent's question and answer accurately & truthfully, don't try to be overly friendly or a comedian, have Identification & other documents available and pass to the Agent AFTER he asks for what he needs. Any more on your part may raise flags and the Agent may require further inspection before you are allowed entry into the USA.
