Branscomb Road, Mendocino County CA

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I am making reservations for Westport Beach RV Park in Westport, CA. Google maps shows the most direct route from San Jose is 101 to Branscomb Road to Highway 1. I'm wondering if anyone can offer some information on what Branscomb Road is like. We have a 27 foot travel trailer and I'm a nervous passenger. ;)

Thanks!

  • We are heading out to Westport this weekend. I am over 60 feet long overall length. We take highway 20 out to the coast (from highway 101) and then go north on highway 1 from Fort Bragg. It is a winding highway but very doable. Tractor trailers take this route to supply Fort Bragg and the surrounding areas.
  • You have selected a beautiful RV park but bring what you need. "Westport" is mostly boarded up. Visit the cemeteries between Ft. Bragg and Westport too. I would not take CA Hwy 1 from US Hwy 101 when towing however. Rather take US Hwy. 101 to Willits and over to the coast on CA Hwy 20, a beautiful drive.
  • I have taken that road many times.... Outstanding motorcycle road! Would be very "interesting!" for driver and passenger, especially towing. I would not tackle Branscomb Rd. 20 south of there is a better alternative and even better would be 128 out of Cloverdale. The whole area is a great play ground for motorcycles 223,20,253, Branscomb all great for 2 wheel trips, me? I would stick to 128. More traffic but no white knuckles.
