Bruce Peninsula

I stumbled upon the pictures for Bruce Peninsula and thought it might be a good destination for a long weekend.

Curious if it's worth the 6 hour drive and struggle with customs on the way home. Thoughts?

  • I am biased I guess since home is in Bruce County but

There is lots to do in that beautiful part of Ontario - beaches hiking cycling canoeing/kyaking small interesting towns.

as well there are several lighthouses to tour and at the top of the peninsula is the large ferry that goes to Manitoulan Island. The lighthouse in downtown Kincardine has a museum inside. The Chantry Island lighthouse at Southampton is on an island. A tour boat takes visitors out there.

Here is the contact for Bruce County Tourism.

  • We are in the area quite a bit, family all in the area.

If you are going to drive for 6 hours really decide what you want to do and see first. It is a very busy areas and campgrounds fill fast. If you are planning on staying in a provincial park make your reservations as early as you can or you will likely not get one. on a weekend. You can book 4 months in advance but check with Ontario Provincial parks online.

If you need any questions answering or need help please PM hubby and myself. We may have questions on Michigan as we tend to pop over quite a bit for weekends.

  • Summer beauty, many nice campgrounds, lots of people on weekends. Maximum 25 minutes from Lake Huron to Georgian bay. Lots of activities, we are regulars there. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you.
