Bryce to Yellowstone - Utah Route

I am staying in Mt Carmel Junction, UT to visit Zion and Bryce and will then be heading north to Yellowstone. Google Maps is recommending I-15 up the whole way but I also see that US-89 parallels that Interstate. I don't go much over 60 mph. Would you recommend I-15 or is US 89 just fine if I am going to be under Interstate speed limits anyway.
  • Take US 89. I-15 is a 6 lane speedway from south of Provo to the Idaho line. And it seems to be under construction continually.
  • I have done both routes and prefer taking as much of US 89 that I can going from Bryce to Jackson, WY and on north.
  • Know that if you opt to go from Zion thru the tunnel there are restrictions on rig size.

If you can't use the tunnel I suggest going north on I-15 to Exit 15, county road 20 which is an easy drive to road 89, which will then take you to Bryce.

If indeed you take in Bryce second, you can go either way to the north, either 89 - 2- I15 or 89 - Zion - 9- I15.
  • We live just off 89. If you follow it from Mt Carmel up to about Provo, then take I15 until you're to about Willard and get back on 89. from Willard/Brigham City, 89 goes over the mountains past Logan to Bear Lake and then north along the Idaho/Wyoming border and into Jackson Hole. From Jackson Hole you can go up to Yellowstone through Grand Teton. We drove to Jackson that way in 2010 and it's a very scenic drive. We drove I15 to Blackfoot and then followed 20 to West Yellowstone. It works good, but not as scenic. We drove to West Yellowstone in 2013
