Bucks County PA To New Hampshire

Planning a summer trip in July to Lancaster New Hampshire looked at mapquest says to go I95 to New York then on to I87 to 15 to 91. Just wandering if this is a good route or can anyone suggest a better route. Will be towing a 33' fifth wheel how are fuel stops along the way?
Thanks in advance.

  • #3 - is 287 to 87 North to 84 east . cross the Newburg Bridge into CT and catch 84

I think I will give this way a try.
This will be a July trip.

We live in southern Maine and travel to central PA several times a year with a Class A and toad. Highly recommend route #3 - Newburgh Bridge. It's about 8 miles further than crossing the Tappan Zee, but traffic is normally much calmer, and the bridge toll is considerably less. (But, I was never charged the same toll twice, when I used the Tappan Zee, which is one big reason I use an extra gallon of gas just to cross at Newburgh.)

Gotta agree with this! I got used to paying $% for our RT, and suddenly I was charged $13! I tried to point out that I was in a van, not a truck, and even in Vermont we are registered as a passenger car. But the line behind me was getting restless and the toll taker wouldn't budge, so I fumbled around and came up with the toll. The next time I was ready to pay the $13 and was charged $5. It's Newburgh for us!

  • Ford Truck Guy's #1 or #2 route. Avoid the GW. You can only go over the top of the bridge so if it's stuck, you're stuck.

Depending on the day and time of day I would avoid NY City area by all costs~!!!! I live in Bucks County and travel to Hartford every 4-6 weeks... I take 202 North through Flemington to 287 North.. Once on 287 you have several choices

#1 - is 287 to 87 south the Tappan Zee Bridge to 684 North to 84 to 91
#2 - is 287 to 87 south the Tappan Zee Bridge to 95 North to 91
#3 - is 287 to 87 North to 84 east . cross the Newburg Bridge into CT and catch 84

The fastest way no doubt is 95 crossing the GW BUT it is hit or miss... I have flown through that area and I have been hung up for hours in that area... the west route is more relaxing but will take a bit longer.. I prefer the #3 (Newburg Bridge).. Out of all the ways , that was has been the most consistent.... more miles but could relate to a lot less time.. You just never know!

  • We're planning NJ to New England in June, so I've been looking into routes as well. Try using Good Sam's Trip Planner site, as it will warn you about RV restrictions on the roads, such as bridges that do not allow RVs or propane restrictions in tunnels. You can click and drag to change the route once you've entered your various stops. I'm sure others with more experience than me will have some good advice as well. Have a great time!
