Actually, looks just like the ones here in Kansas.
As Lwiddis suggested, I misremembered a little. They are indeed a different subspecies, but not a different species. The wood bison tend to be a bit bigger and heavier and a little differently built than the plains bison. All are impressive animals, somehow both majestic and (in my opinion) somewhat ugly at the same time. Seeing them is a treat, particularly since there are no bison of any sort to be found in Vermont.
