In Mexico it's mostly butane. (Or at least the places where snowbirds gather). :). Technically I guess it is still LPG. Not too sure. Experts chime in.
It typically is Butane unless sold for use at higher elevations where freezing weather is more common. Straight butane will fail to produce enough vapor to be usable. In those areas a butane/propane mix or straight propane is used.
Both are petroleum byproducts.
