by passing Denver

I am leaving Nebraska heading to Albuquerque and want to by pass Denver in my motorhome with a toad. Looking at 71 to Limon and 24 to Colorado Springs. Has anyone used it? Is there any better route?

As mentioned by others, if you can avoid I25 south of Denver thru Colorado Springs your blood pressure and disposition will remain good.I drive that route a lot and it is a mess and getting worse due to all the building and new residents.

Great route...if coming from Omaha. From OP's original post, he was looking at CO 71 to Limon. That would imply (or I inferred, as apparently byronlj did) that he was in western or central Nebraska, likely coming in on I-76, or NE/CO 71 coming out of the panhandle area.

  • Towed Hwy 24 from Limon to Springs last week. Some construction repaving but most of that road is getting pretty rough.

In Colorado take 71 all the way south to Rocky Ford. It is a very nice 2 lane highway with little traffic. From south of Rocky Ford take Hwy 10 west to I25. Nice 2 lane again and no traffic. I grew up driving these roads.

^^^^^ This. Best way to beat all of the various traffic congestion areas. And they are NOT limited to Denver and the Springs. I-25 between those 2 points is not a pleasant drive; lucky to get up to 45MPH at times, and then those cars trying to do 80MPH when the opportunity presents. Settle in on the route presented above.

    Something like this might work.

But are you looking at This, you do know that the traffic in the Springs is no Picnic.

Maybe if we had a little more info we could help out, ????
