I have driven through Atlanta several times and find that the best way to do it is to stay in the second lane and watch for the exit only signs. You are driving a big vehicle and the cars are as intimidated as much by you as you are by the large trucks. I will be going through tomorrow and plan to leaving about 6:00 am from Chamblee following 285 on the east side. At that time, most of the traffic will be heading into Atlanta and will be on I-85. The traffic on I-285 east side will mostly be heading north towards I-85 or south to I-20. After I get past I-20 ( which heads into downtown) the traffic slacks away until the I-675 bypass. That bypass will take you south to I-75 where your south bound traffic is moderate. Drive about 60 and let the traffic pass you.
