CA -86 by the Salton Sea
I am planning to leave El Centro NAS on Dec. 1 and head past Palm Springs to Hemet, CA. Just wondering if Rt. 86 is a good route to take.

If by 86, you mean up to 10, that's the route I'd use. It can get dangerously windy between Palm Springs and Beaumont, as has been pointed out. Best bet to get to Hemet from 10 is 79 in Beaumont.
