CA Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1) Anaheim to Crescent City

Planning for a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway between Anaheim, CA (Disneyland) and Crescent City, CA. We'd have about 10 days. Any suggestions about this route would be most welcome. Mus...

We've driven the PCH many times, and whenever possible, I like to drive the highway going south then take the interstate going north. Since most of the pullouts are on the water side, it's easier to pull over and merge back in when I don't have to cross a lane. It's a minor thing, but just a thought.
