Hey, I can answer this one---used to live all over the area.
Hwy 50 from Carson City to Tahoe is a 4 lane pull up hill--doable. From the intersection hwy 50 & 28, the road is a two lane mountainous drive, but fine. The only caution I would throw in is to watch other drivers. Hwy 267 is a pull over the grade, two lane, but just fine. When you reach Truckee, head west on I-80.
There is much history in the Truckee area-Donner Summit, the train routes, etc. Enjoy the area, we did for years.
If you didn't want the Tahoe experience, head north from Carson on Hwy 395, to Reno, then west on I-80. Cabela's (west of Reno) has a RV park at Boomtown Casino.
