There are several open (thats the key word) rest stops up the 99, including a campground just shy of Fresno, but I suspect thats a little short coming from Santa Clarita. There is also lots of construction along the route to Fresno from SCV. As boring as it is, I-5 is a better road for the time being. Smoother too.
