California Coast

In the spring we will be traveling the southern route from NJ to southern California. Anything we shouldn't miss in Ca. other than the obvious well known attractions? I would appreciate any info.

  • California highway 1, the Pacific Coast highway, is perhaps the most scenic highway in all of America. It has history with an old Russian fort, WWII gun enplacements, the giant Redwoods, Big Sur, Pt Reyes/Drakes Bay, Monterey area, Bodega Bay, Jenner, etc. You can't go wrong spending time on the coast. Check out Alcatraz when in San Franscisco.
  • That's a loaded question! California is one of our favorite places to visit. How long will you be there and how far north are you planning to travel in CA?

Some of the non-obvious things I can think of are 17 Mile Drive in the Monterrey Bay Peninsula. The Monterrey Bay Aquarium. Hearst Castle. Big Sur. Balboa Park and it's many museums in San Diego. La Jolla. I may think of more later.
