- poncho62ExplorerI have found that rain is no more an issue there than anywhere else. West coast is a different story.
With the kids, you will likely appreciate the more touristy area.....Magnetic Hill, Reversing Falls etc....Ann of Green Gables in PEI....the beaches. The Cabot Trail is real nice, but a long ride for kids - Wrong_LaneExplorerHere are some activities to consider
Whale watching in St. Andrews
Hopewell Rocks and highest tides in the world in Fundy National Park
Magic Mountain water park in Moncton
Cavandish PEI, includes a trip over one of the longest bridges in the world, beaches, theme parks and Ann of Green Gables
Halifax (Shubie Park), with day trips to Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg in Nova Scotia
That's just skimming the surface. I am sure others would have some ideas as well - LobstahExplorerAll depends on time and timing :)
in 2011 we went up to Newfoundland, one of the best trips we've done, but a long haul to be sure. We did the Cabot trail on the way to the ferry that took us over to Newfoundland. There are two you can take...one is 6hrs to the West coast, the other is 16hrs from the East coast. We took one up and the other back.
There's tons to do, no matter where you choose to go, and depending on timing. Second weekend in August is the Lobstah Festival in Winter Harbor, complete with Lobstah boat races and the "Cod Toss"...that's always a hoot, and plenty to do with the kids :)
Enjoy the trip wherever you decide to go :)

- rockhound007ExplorerThanks everyone, gonna start planning for next year
- alfrescoExplorerFundy Park on the Bay of Fundy is a great place for kids...many hiking trails to use up excess energy. Chignecto North campsite in the Park is quiet sites and some playgrounds.

They didn't care for Peggy Cove.
They liked the Citadel in Halifax and a nice nautical museum in downtown Halifax.
They really enjoyed their day at Fortress Louisbourg out by Sydney, highlight of the maritimes.
Cabot trail was nice, but we only allotted a day for it, so for the kids its more of a long boring ride. It is breathtaking, but wouldn't go if it couldn't be broken into two days.
We spent a few hours at low tide on the bay of Fundy, at a beach. Worth it if you can time it.
Reversing falls is lost on the young kids, or at least were with mine.
