An example of how the Canadian insurers do everything to avoid coverage. If you are over 65 or have a horrible medical history youmust answer a questionnaire. No big deal. Right. WRONG. The quiz is designed to be confusing. If you make a mistake they deny coverage. Typical question would be: Has there been any change in your medications? If your Doc thinks that a baby aspirin is a good idea and you anwer that questions no you have a problem. 3weks later you are walking on one of those Mexican sidewalks. You trip on alarge hole and break a bone. You make a claim to the insurer. They get your medical history and deny coverage due to that aspirin. Another question asks if you have been taking meds for a whole bunch of not very serious illnesses. Amongst the is GERDS. So if you take Nexium the answer to the question is yes. Now your insurance goes up about 30 %. You are doomed! Travelling without insurance could bankrupt you if your travel is in the USA. Our Medical system will provide coverage but only at the rate paid in Canada. Your USA bill of $1000 for a few stitches will get a reimbursement of maybe $50.00. A $100,000 heart attack gets maybe $10,000. What fun!
