MEXICOWANDERER
Aug 21, 2018Explorer
If an RV'er should encounter an errant asteroid or find themselves "shot" while on the highway a major tourist route like Mex 15-D...
IT PAYS TO KNOW HISTORY. Facts.
The odds are terrifically high the Mexican government will pick up any remaining hospitalization, towing, and incidental costs after the concessionaire's insurance (remember them?) of the cuota pays for personal and vehicular damage.
Getting screwed after being criminally hurt is one of the nightmares the government will not tolerate. This is ultra-bad press and a slap in the face.
Specifically, a bad incident would have to happen on or very near to a major tourist corridor. Many tourists frequent Cuotas where assaults would be covered 100% for medical and damages. The SCT is federal. It might take a week for the incredible bureaucratic wheels to turn but turn they will.
Knothead behavior like cruising the back streets of Culiacan or gravel back in the Sierra would forfeit interest just like getting shot at 4:00AM in a pool hall.
There have been incidents that have proven what I have written. Like the British couple who were intimidated by force to surrender their valuables near sundown in Acaponeta. The man was conked over the head with a (pipe?) and his wife was slugged in the face breaking her nose.
They both were taken to the hospital. The SCT had their small camper towed.
When they were released, they found no hospital bill. No tow bill and gobernacion have them a check for around $400 USA.
It's things like this that get buried in the hoo-hah of alarmism.
While one should not count on help like this, it's nice to know that that the Mexcian government does not just sit on their butt. Yell SOCORRO! (help!) To state and federal tourism agencies and by god they will help
