Talleyho. As the moderator you could show a little understanding. Your example of a minor orthopedic problem could have been a heart attack. Not only would the care be not as good as in the USA the cost would be much higher. To suggest that one does not need insurance as the medical care is cheap is not good advice. I know Canadians that could not afford over $4000 Canadian for an emergency. There are hundreds of horror stories about Canadians that had emergencies in Mexico and had coverage denied due to overlooking amedical questionnaire. They were left with large medical bills. One couple had to sell their house. Forum members come from all walks of life with varying financial resources. Perhaps you could handle a $50,000 dollar medical bill but others may not be as fortunate. Canadians need to travel through the USA where that heart attack could be over $100,000. Although one might be able to get a one week policy for the USA it is difficult or impossible to get coverage for the return trip. Life should not be a game of chance. Very few Canadians travel without insurance. If coverage in Mexico is not available they may not be able to travel. If the cost of insurance doubles they may not be able to afford the coverage. I would not call this thread horror stories. I certainly hope you will not delete my post.
