When a person is not covered by insurance as in Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social "Mexican Social Security" that is provided by employers or Patrones of workers and you are not eligible for the Seguro Popular or can not get it because you are a foreigner with no insurance that will cover you, every hospital will take a credit card for medical procedures as well as the doctors, so have a back up that covers the expense.
Granted it is only a band aid but there are not many avenues to go if you are only going to be here for a few days, many Canadians can not be out of Canada for more than 180 days and take away the days spent in the USA going South and then back up to Canada, you get about 170 days stay in Mexico, so paying for a 6 month insurance to cover you in México at a pretty high rate is maybe not so much a good investment, whereas a credit card is not a bad idea in the long run, and on top of that you are covered in all the areas that are "verboten" by the Canadian or USA Government gurus of travel.
It is one avenue of thought to consider when all else fails as the saying goes........ "money talks"
