Can't fly out while you have a vehicle in Mexico?? True?

Recently reported elsewhere - that Mexico have linked their immigration and aduana systems and that they are enforcing their rules about no being able to leave the country when there is a 180 day TI...

With 180 day visitors visa and the 180 day TIP,if you leave the country the vehicle must also leave. The 20 dollar fine may not be a problem. The problems start when you return as the vehicle is now illegally in Mexico and the insurance is not valid and the vehicle can be impounded.
