With the computers being used more and more and being able to link information from one Government entity to another it is becoming more difficult to bluff and get away with a lot of shenanigans that in the past were done, not only by the Mexicans but also by some gringos, some of the airports that are classified as international are being linked to Banjersito and Secretaria de Hacienda y Credito "Mexico's IRS" and the Procuraduria General de Justicia "Justice department", in the past they operated independently so a person flying out of Mazatlan the visa was collected at the counter by the ticket agent and handed over to immigration latter, the officers assumed they were all tourists that had arrived by plane and not by car so easy to go and come, no more some visas had a note that there was a vehicle involved and some did not.
Today if you enter with a tourist visa and a vehicle, the vehicle is linked to the visa, it is temporarily imported by the person with the visa and this vehicle HAS to be out of the country after the 180 days are over, be careful they count 180 days from the time that the permit is issued, not 6 months as some have assumed and had problems at the border or have had vehicles confiscated.
