A lot of this is due to the Law of Unintended consequences. When they started the Bond program Aduana did not consider that immigration should have been part of the equation. Presently if you have the equivalent of the old FM3 every time you renew your tourist status you must inform Aduana or you lose your deposit. Although the 2 Departments may be linked when you turn in your FMM they do not open a computer and change your status in the computer. Perhaps it is done after the fact. Although Mexico made a lot of changes to improve border crossing they actually made it harder not easier. Maybe they should have a form that you sign indicating where the vehicle is parked and when you are returning. But that would be too simple. Presently if one person returns home and the spouse wants to drive the car that is illegal.
