So sorry, I thought this thread was about pricing on renting a car in MX. Taxi and bus is definitely cheaper than renting a car, especially if you're only staying around town/hotel. I was not implying that $60 a day was saving money or the cheapest alternative, it was for convenience. I like being able to get in my own car on my own timeline. There were several days I did not even use the car, so those days were a total waste. If your only objective is to go with the cheapest transportation, DO NOT rent a car.
I am not so sure about Uber in Quintana Roo. The Taxi Union there staged a couple protests against Uber while I was there. They all had writing on their windshields basically for Uber to burn and go home. Maybe in other areas (like PV) it is fine but I (and I repeat I) would NOT consider Uber in QR.
