I think the bikes would be a good idea. Not the scooter. You want something you can push through the brush or lift over a fallen tree IMO.
Many people use mtn bikes to get back to good fishing areas etc. you can click off a few miles on a bike quickly vs hiking. Upper Russian Lakes comes to mind as an example. Everyone hikes 0-2 mi up the Russian to fish reds. There's a trail that goes back 11 mi. Easy to do on a bike. Not so much on foot, it's a backpacking trip then.
