Hi Smitty,
Bell and Telus have a reciprocal agreement. I.E. all Telus devices will work on the Bell network and visa versa.
How much was the Telus no contract sim?
The way it was explained to me, after I had picked up the SIM for the Droid, that Bell shares Telus tower, but Bell uses a different 'backhaul' to the Internet, that is supposed to yield a bit more speed. (All second hand info, so who knows:)!)
For the SIM, setup, activation, US Un-limited Calls, and 10GB of Data - the bill for May was about $185. (Less data, and or no US Unlimited calls, drops the price down, but I don't recall how much.)
MIL had a very rough medical year, and ongoing wedding plans for our daughter upon our return - and Smitty was just about painted into getting coverage:)! (Small price to add onto the overall costs of the trip.)
But I admit, after striking out with Verizon to add Canada without losing my grandfathered Unlimited Data - I did not really shop around too much. I got this thru a Silver Auto Store, just over the border in Cardston. Telus is all that they offered. In a larger city, with more options, may have chosen something else. I will say that the Silver Auto Store and Telus support - had to become creative to establish this account for us - as we have no resident address in Canada. So sure not knocking Silver Auto, they were very nice - and I was impressed with how tech savvy the gent was that set this all up.
Best,
Smitty
