We are Canadians who spend our winters in the US, we have an AT&T pay as you go monthly plan in the US which we use. The phone also works in Canada at no additional cost, AT&T pairs with Rogers in Canada. Not sure about the Rogers coverage in Newfoundland, maybe someone can comment on how good it is. With Verizon I understand that you have to have their "right" International phone, one that isn't the CDMA type, all Canadian services use the international standard, GMS, except for some CDMA "left overs" in some areas. AT&T uses GMS.
