Central NY State to Orlando

I'm not a fan of I-95 and was thinking of traveling I-81 to I-77 to I-26 to I-95 to eliminate the worst of I-95 traffic. We will take the bypasses around Charlotte and Jacksonville. What shape are these routes in? We will be traveling in mid - May so weather should not be an issue, except for fog. Thanks in advance.
  • Best way to go. Roads are good and the ride is very scenic. This is my preferred route from Cape Cod. Worst traffic and construction was around Orlando on I4 (very very bad).
  • That's the route we use from upstate NY to FL every winter. Except we get off I-95 just over the FL line and take Rt 200 to Rt 301 to I-75. There's a lot of road construction west of Charlotte, but it doesn't slow traffic down too much.
  • Great route -- that's the one we take with our fifth wheel -- just came home that way a few weeks ago.
  • Another option to avoid I-95 is take I-26 exit 154A (US301) then turn left on the 178 bypass around Orangeburg to stay on US301. At Wildwood, take the Florida Turnpike (toll) to Orlando. To avoid Ocala traffic, take 326 to I-75 south to the Turnpike. There are small towns and traffic lights but for the less stress that's the way we go. Watch out for speed trap in Waldo FL.
